Cakra dance company was formally founded by KOU(dancer/artistic director) in 2000.But our history begins long before that back on the street dance culture 90’s.They travelled the world honing their skills, adding to their knowledge,from the streets and underground clubs and dance culture. we are aiming at dancing in Japan and development and the evolution of the theatrical art. In 2006, CAKRA DANCE COMPANY produced the full length feature show ”LATENT０・t/o ~ ISHIKI” at NAGOYA civic center hall. We received high praise from a wide international audience. Our dance style “STREET CONTEMPORARY” focuses on a duality of world and beauty of imperfection and defectiveness. In 2007, We performed at “TOKYO Design Festa”. In 2008, We performed at worldwide dance event “Yokohama DanceCollection R” We were selected as the one in 14 group , among the 164 participants from 8 countries. 2009~2013 “Fukuoka Dance Fringe Festival” We appeared consecutively for 5 years. In 2010, Cakra gave its first overseas public performance in BALI. “BALI Art Festival” We performed with “Suar Agung” famous JEGOG group and Mr.Seki Show(guitar) and “Bintang”(rock band in Bali). The performance was praised highly by the audience. CAKRA DANCE COMPANY was invited to “Busan International Dance Festival” in 2011 as one of the main performance of a program from 13countries 200 group. Also in 2012, we were invited and performed “Incheon Dance Festival” in Incheon Korea. In Aichi (our base of activity), We participated in “Aichi Triennale” in 2009/2010. Since 2002 we perform with “Ballet dance company - Unicorn” as a guest company. In 2012 performed at “Ken Katayama(tenor artist)- 1000 people Inori project” pray for the reconstruction of east japan earthquake. Kou Kawasaki himself, as a choreographer, he was selected as on of choreographer of “TOKUGAWA shogunate government 400 years anniversary” from Nagoya city. Also, All CAKRA DANCE COMPANY members teaching dance at studios, high school, college. in Tokai area.
